Dreams - Walt Disney

You have to make up your mind to be committed. Wealth, high net worth connections, impact, success are the rewards. Failure is the natural result of the lack of commitment. No one wants to fail; what you say does not really matter, you will be rated by your actions. Be resolute, be determined and success will definitely smile at you. You can be exceptionally successful!

Your dreams can become realities, in spite of obvious challenges, if you know what to do and you do it. Just be bold to take baby steps. The difference between the newsmakers and the commoners is the guts to follow through despite the initial problems they face. One good way of overcoming challenges is to read success stories. Dreams are real, they can come true if only you can be bold enough to dream and have enough information to drive you on. I will be supplying you with the necessary information you need. Please do me the favour of taking the steps that will make your dreams come through.

Discover Yourself First

For your to dreams to come to reality, you must discover your calling by discovering yourself. Look inwards, discover what you do with ease. Go learn from the masters, read their stories, study, read, get committed. Get a job and if you cannot get one, create one. It is unfortunate that in Nigeria today, the tertiary education degree programme is outdated and has since lost relevance. Can you imagine that most graduates in Nigeria cannot package their abilities and educational attainment well in a resume, let alone write a good proposal. The Use of English courses in our universities is supposed to take care of this, but does it. No! Since it does not, take a wise step, go and learn how to write a good proposal. In the business world, a good proposal rules and determines if you will get the job or not. Be wise!

Do Some Preliminary Analysis

Analyse the requirements needed to practice what you want. Get the requirements listed out under separate headings – Education, Training, Experience, License. For instance, for you to practice Public Relations in Nigeria, you must be a member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), you must either have written the NIPR exams or graduated as a Mass Communication or marketing student. If it is events marketing, it is still an all comers affairs for now, just know how to market and manage events. For standup comedy, there is no regulation anywhere in the world yet. They may learn from one another but there is no regulation yet for standup comedy. But that does not mean it is easy to break into. There are several comedians, but we all know the leaders. Take time to learn, find out what it takes to practice your discovered passion and be ready to give it your very best shot or don’t venture at all.

Another important thing you do is to honestly analyse yourself. Are you sure that with the skills you have you can make it easily? What marketing skills do you have? What do you know about promotions? How competent are you? Do you have bad manners? What do you think may hold you back? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are the opportunities? Are there threats? Please find out. Understand yourself and the area you have chosen well. It is very important.

You also need to understand and analyse the market. Who are the leaders in the market/what are their strengths? It may be difficult to move very fast if you don’t understand your competition well.

Stand Out

You need to devise a creative means to launch out. Use the Lagbaja style; be unique, create a niche for yourself.

Get your resume or proposal to those and only those that you think can employ you. Ali Baba is very good at this. He has his write ups in journals and business magazines read by his target audience. If you are not good at promoting yourself or your services, use the Tu Face Idibia approach to promotion and marketing – get the experts to help you out. The Public Relations consultants are there to give you maximum promotion.

You need a good dose of a positive mental attitude. Don’t ever think failure, even if you make a mistake or two. Nobody is above mistakes. It is however a fool that keeps repeating the same mistakes over and again.

If you will need to change your career, do it fast! It is better to be in your place. There are millions of people who are working in the oil industry and making lots of money but are not happy with their jobs. It will be most frustrating, when such people later in life see someone who is doing what they love, who is financially comfortable and still making global impact.

Here’s An Example

I know of a company that got started by three friends. They are in the hospitality industry. They have a strong presence in the East – Awka, Anambra State to be precise. They had paid employments; then they decided to follow their passion. They started their business three years after the decision was made. They took professional courses in catering, management and personal effectiveness, entrepreneurship, among others. They are making waves today in Awka, Anambra State.

…And Another

A guy did his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Awka, Anambra State. He was so hardworking and dedicated that he got a state award and was employed by the State government. He discovered that there was no satellite dish anywhere in the whole of Awka, at the time. He was smart. He filled the need quickly by dashing to Lagos. He made contacts, learnt how to operate the business and got back to Awka to start the installation of satellite dish business. His business picked up very fast. He made real money. His boss started giving him problems. He didn’t have a choice, he quickly resigned his appointment and worked hard on his business to make it a huge success. He succeeded and he is now a very wealthy and successful man, because he spotted an opportunity and filled it. Please make a solemn decision to be the next success story. Find opportunities all around you and fill it fast.

I met a lady recently and her desire to become a top flight model really interested me. As a success strategist and career coach, I gave her a list of what to do and interestingly she was really committed. Commitment is a vital tool that will make your dream come true.
