“O Allah indeed I ask of You of erasing sins and for security in my religion and my world, in my family and in my wealth. O Allah conceal my deficiencies, secure my fears. O Allah protect me from in front of me, from behind me, from my right side, from my left side, from above me. I seek refuge from being taken suddenly from underneath me.”

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

All praise is due to Allah for granting us this time which our hearts, words and limbs have awaited with much anticipation. Endless praises and gratitude are due to Allah for His abundant favours that continue to increase, and we hope to attain His reward on the Day of Recompense. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone, without any partner. He has granted immense reward to those who fast in every generation. I further bear witness that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is Allah’s worshipping servant and Messenger. He was the best individual who fasted and prayed, and hence will be granted the loftiest rank in the hereafter, and those who follow his path will attain the greatest of rewards. O Allah, grant Your commendation, protection, and blessings to Your Messenger, as well as to his outstanding family and children, his esteemed Companions, and all those who continue to follow their path until the Day of Recompense.

Dear brothers and sisters! The authentic Hadith has been reported from Abu Hurairah (RA) who said that the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

“There is no supplication which a servant of Allah supplicates with, better than:

“Allahummah inni as’aluka al-Mu’afat fid Dunya wal Akhirah.”

Meaning:

“O Allah indeed I ask of You for peace and security in the world and in the Hereafter.”

[Collected by Imams Ibn Majah, Tabarani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabir and Albani graded it Sahih in Sahih Ibn Majah and researched in Silsilah Sahihah no. 1138]

Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddeen Albani mentioned from the Hadith of Abu Darda from the Prophet (Peace be upon him) with the wording:

“ﻣﺎ ﺳﺄﻝ ﺍﻟﻌﺒﺎﺩ ﺷﻴﺌﺎ ﺃﻓﻀﻞ ﻣﻦ ﺃﻥ ﻳﻐﻔﺮ ﻟﻬﻢ ﻭ ﻳﻌﺎﻓﻴﻬﻢ.”

Meaning:

“The servant of Allah did not ask for anything better than that they are forgiven and, peace and security.”

[Collected by Imam al-Bazzar and its narrators are those of Imam Bukhari]

And from Mu’az Bin Rufa’ah from his father who said that Abu Bakr as-Siddiq stood up on the Mimbar then cried and said:

“The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) stood up on the Mimbar once, then cried and said: ‘O people, ask Allah for security and goodness, since one of you is not given anything after Yaqin (certainty) better than goodness.”

[Collected by Imam Tirmidhi and Shaykh Albani graded it Hasan Sahih in Sahih Targhib no. 3387]

And from Ibn Umar (RA) that he said:

“The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) would not leave off this Du’a during the morning and evening:

Meaning:

“O Allah indeed I ask of You of erasing sins and for security in my religion and my world, in my family and in my wealth. O Allah conceal my deficiencies, secure my fears. O Allah protect me from in front of me, from behind me, from my right side, from my left side, from above me. I seek refuge from being taken suddenly from underneath me.”

Imam Waki’a said:

“The ground splitting from underneath.”

[Collected by Imam Abu Dawud and Authenticated by Shaykh Albani]

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim -Rahimahullah said, commenting:

“The two matters of peace and security in the religion and the world are combined. The rectification of a servant of Allah cannot be complete in the two places [religion and the world] except with al-Yaqin [certainty] and al-Afiya [peace and security]. Therefore, certainty defends a person from punishments in the hereafter, and peace and security defends a person from the illness and problem of this world in his heart and body. So the matter of the hereafter was gathered in one word and all the worldly matters in another word.” [See Tuhfatuz Zakirin page 305]

And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. May the peace, blessings and salutations of Allah be upon our noble Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family, his Companions and his true followers.

I ask Allah the Most High to strengthen us in this blessed month of Ramadan, accept our fasts, and reward us with His forgiveness and the highest place in Paradise. Ameen.
